About This Project
Farjano Village in Abudwaq District of Galmudug State is an integrated settlement of approximately 500 households, comprising Internally Displaced Persons, returnees, and host community members. The village faces a critical shortage of nearby education facilities, forcing many children to remain out of school or to drop out due to the long distances required to access basic education.
To address this urgent need through a sustainable, long-term solution, the Farjano community collectively mobilized local resources and diaspora support to establish a primary school. The initiative is fully endorsed by the District Authority, which allocated government land for the construction of the school.
The first phase of the school construction was implemented with the support of IOM. In the second phase, the community relied entirely on contributions from local residents and the diaspora, successfully raising more than USD 70,000. These funds enabled the construction of additional classrooms and the fencing of the school compound, covering an area of approximately 100 meters by 100 meters.
The project is now entering its third phase, which focuses on the construction of a multipurpose hall. For this phase, the local community and the diaspora are each contributing USD 3,150, bringing the total community contribution to USD 6,250. This represents approximately 30 percent of the total project cost, with IOM expected to provide matching funds of USD 18,750, equivalent to 70 percent of the total cost.
The multipurpose hall will serve as a space for student orientation and school assemblies, as well as a designated feeding area for girls when school feeding programs are introduced. In addition, the hall will be available for community meetings and social activities during school holidays and outside school hours, ensuring that the facility benefits both the school and the wider community.
